Hi Vincent!
Think about how you would write statements to show your rounding (Ex. 45,672 ~ 50,000). That would be the algorithm for this type of problem.
-Mrs. Chapman π
Hi Mrs Chapman
I don’t understand the algorithm problem on our homework for today Mrs Chapman
Vincent:)
Hello Mrs. Chapman,
Is the homework we are suppose to copy Lesson 3 Problem Set or Lesson 31 Problem Set?
From Evan J.
Hi Evan!
Lesson 3 Problem Set was what we worked on yesterday during our math block when you were absent. Tonight, use problem #1 from Lesson 31 Problem Set to do on the back of your Exit Ticket. π
Hello Mrs. Chapman! I have a question about my math homework today. It says each group has 6 students. One chaperone on each team. Does this mean 5 students and one chaperone or 6 students and one chaperone let me know!
Thank you!
Would a student be a chaperone?
Hi Mrs. Chapman I forgot my homework today since Luca gave me my backpack today. I forgot all about the homework before I left. Can you please give me one? I forgot it in my cubby! I donβt mind staying in at recess!
Thank you!
Unfortunately, I’m unable to send it via email, but you are welcome to stop by before school and complete it. You may also complete it at recess. π
Ok thanks I will complete it at recess
Hello Mrs. Chapman, I quite donβt get the word problem today. It says βSamantha buys a memory card with twice as much storage as Jesusβsβ Does this mean Samantha has one GB or 4?
How much storage does Jesus have?
Jesus has 4 GB memory cards.
With 1024 MB storage
Jesus has 4 GB of storage and Samantha has twice as much as Jesus. How much does she have?
Oh I get it now π
Thank you for the help
You are very welcome! π
Hello Ms. Chapman I am confused on what variable means in Lesson 19 Exit Ticket. I have used Wordsmith and it hasnβt helped me. May you please help me so I know what variable means in the math question?
Does it mean to find the unknown or the find the total?
Never mind Iβm not confused anymore π
I am so proud of you for sticking with this problem, using your resources, and figuring it out! Way to go! π
Mrs. Chapman, I have 17 now but not 18 π
Ok. I’m sure there is an extra lesson 18 at school. π
Ok
Do I come early today?
Sure!
Weβre we supposed to do the fifth problem of our problem set?
No π
I am confused on number 2 on our exit ticket. May you help me?
Never mind I am not confused anymore. π
May I check in the homework with you in the morning?
Hi Victoria! I have a meeting in the morning, but we can work on it during our Daily Warm-Up. π
The homework says,β Of the team members who ran 1 6/8 miles, how many did those team members run combined?β I am confused because only one member ran 1 6/8 miles, and there is an incorrect point. They are asking how many miles they ran total, are they asking for both of the points or only the one that is correct?
Are you sure there is only one team member who ran 1 6/8 miles??
Because one of them isnβt correct.
Are you sure one of them is incorrect?
Wait I see my mistake! π
Yay!!! π
Sorry about that, I wasnβt plotting the mixed numbers carefully enough.
No need to apologize at all! I’m VERY proud of you for persevering through it! Excellent effort! π
I have to sleep early, will I have enough time to finish my Gold Rush narrative tomorrow?
I will be at school by 8am tomorrow. I don’t have any conferences before school, so you are welcome to come by to work on it in the morning. π
Mrs.Chapman it say that lesson 34 exit ticket why is it 34 instead of 35.
Oops…I must have written it incorrectly. Do you have Lesson 34 Exit Ticket or Lesson 35 Exit Ticket?
Lesson 35
Sorry about that! I guess I forgot to update the Homework page of the blog. It’s correct now. π
thank you Mrs.chapman.
You are very welcome! π
May I go over c. on the exit ticket with you?
Yes, of course! But I would like you to try it? What part is confusing?
Actually d. is what is confusing.
OK…I may be able to help you if you ask me a question. What part of d. is confusing?
The comparing part.
Wait, I think I got it. I will show you.
Hi Mrs. Chapman where is the fractions power slide again??
In OneNote, in the math review section. π
Were we supposed to finish the problem set on the weekend?
No. We’re going to continue to work on it after VAPA today. π
π
Mrs.Chapman I don’t get the homework today.
Which part is confusing you? Have you tried to watch the video on the homework page of our class blog?
I am a tiny bit confused on the first problem of our exit ticket, may I have help from you at school?
Of course!! π
Thank you!βΊοΈ
Hi! I wonder if the second problem wants us to label the numbers 0, 1, and 2 on the number line. I am having trouble. But I know that one of the numbers, 7/6, is greater than one whole. π
Also, how long are you going to be in jury duty?
I will be back Wednesday. I miss the class very much!
I think that you are really thinking very critically about this problem! Keep up the great work…you are on the right track! π
What was the topic for the scavenger hunt?
Try to look in your OneNote for the answer. π
Okay.
For the video, they have an even amount of groups grouped together, but when I tried it with the math homework and grouped four together, I had two left. I am confused Mrs. Chapman.π
Why did you decide to group four together? Maybe you are supposed to group a different amount together to get the same unit fraction. π
I actually want to work with you tomorrow so I can understand it better. Is that okay?π
Of course! π
Hi! I donβt have access to google classroom, so I can only type my speech in class.
Why don’t you have access to Google Classroom at home? Let’s see if we can fix that. π
Hi Mrs. Chapman! For the ideas for the speech, may we just write down our ideas on what should matter most? π
Yes!
Hi Mrs.Chapman for the speech contest my topic is friends. Can I talk about how to be a good friend?? Or do I just talk about what friends are for???
Thank you,
Aryannah #11
Hi Aryannah!
You need to look carefully at the prompt and answer the question using your topic. π
Mrs.Chapman when I try to get in google classroom it says the my password is wrong and when I put my password like for Benchmark test.
Make sure you are using your Google classroom email as your username. Your 6-digit number@hedenkamphuskies.org.
thank you
But Mrs.Chapman it’s still not working.
Hmmmmm…I’m not sure why it wouldn’t be working. Make sure you are typing everything really carefully. If it’s still not working, we will try as soon as you get to school tomorrow. You can always write your graphic organizer/introduction on paper tonight and then type it in Google Classroom tomorrow. π
Nevermind
Hello, Mrs. Chapman. I am struggling on this one question that says to describe my 2 strengths in Math, the problem is… I can’t find Module 3 Assessment. I tried finding it in Google Classroom and other websites but I can’t find it. Please tell me where to find it so I can finish this question.
The Module 3 Assessment is the paper test that should be in your portfolio. π
Mrs.Chapman what does record the given fraction’s decomposition into unit fraction as a multiplication sentence.
It’s a bit difficult to explain in writing, but I will try. You are going to write a multiplication sentence where you multiply a unit fraction times a number and it will equal that fraction. Try watching the lesson video that is on the Homework page of our blog. It will help you!! We can review in the morning. π
Mrs. Chapman, for the little progress report and portfolio reflection on the second part it says, βLook at Benchmark Student Report and Benchmark Booklets.β What does it mean by that?
It means to use your Benchmark Student Report and Benchmark Booklets to answer the questions.
Mrs. Chapman, since I didnβt write the first part of the graphic organizer for the first step, what was I supposed to write about? And also for the second part, what do I write about to the Archbishop?
The first part is an introduction and greeting to the archbishop. The second part is about why a 22nd mission needs to be built.
Dear Mrs. Chapman,
What are the name of the people who thought California was a new world? π
Explorers
Dear Mrs. Chapman when i put in username and password it say’s that it’s incorrect but it’s correct.
Hi Rylan!
They changed our usernames for Achieve3000. Please use your whole e-mail (Your 6-digit number@live.cvesd.org) and then use your regular username. Hope you are having a great break! π
Thank you Mrs. Chapman
You are so very welcome!! π
Dear Mrs. Chapman,
how do we do multiplication and addition for a division problem again?π
Your student,
Victoria Z.
Never mind Mrs. Chapman, my brother Stephen showed me. π
Hi Victoria!
I’m so glad that Stephen was able to show you! He must have had a very good 4th grade teacher! π
Dear Mrs. Chapman,
do we have to write something we learned in science or no?
Hi Victoria!
We are not currently working on a science unit.
Ok, thank you for letting me know!
Sincerely,
Victoria Z.
Dear Mrs.Chapman,
I was going to do my homework and I didn’t have it in my mailbox, or I might have not picked it up. However, it isn’t in my homework folder and I really did take every paper out of my mailbox. Can I take it tomorrow and do it for homework with the Module 3 lesson 4? It wouldn’t be a good thing that I forgot my homework. Also, can I do it at school?
From your student, Victoria Z.
Hi Victoria!
Yes, you may complete tonight’s homework either at school or tomorrow night. If you are missing something in your mailbox, let me know before you leave so that I can give you an extra copy. See you tomorrow.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Chapman π
Hi Mrs.Chapman tonight homework I don’t get it says convert each mixed number to a fraction greater than one
They mean convert to an improper fraction.
Hi Mrs. Chapman,
What is the school code for DresmBox? I’ve got the app but what is the school code? I have tried Ca3739, but it didn’t work. Please PM (private message) me please if you can/want to.
Always return, ASAP
– Kate
Hi Kate!
Did you use the link from the blog? If you did, there should not be a need for a school code. Try the link on the blog. π
Oh! Thanks, I didn’t hear you mention it.
Yes, I did use the link on the blog, but it says to get Adobe Flashplayer but I can get it on my device, or it says to get the app and I did. Anything else I could try?
*Cannot
What kind of device do you have? It looks like it will only work on an iPad.
I was trying on an iPad and and iPhone :/
I found a website that has troubleshooting tips for the iPad and DreamBox. Have your parents help you with this. https://support.dreambox.com/hc/en-us/articles/204905368-Troubleshooting-Tips-iPad
Mrs Chapman I am have a frustrating time right now because I forgot my homework, is there any way that I could print my homework?????:0:(
Hi Gabe!
I’m very sorry that you are feeling frustrated. Unfortunately, I’m not able to e-mail you the homework to print at home. You may stop by the classroom in the morning and work on it. If I’m not there I will be in the MPR for Give Thanks to Reading. See you in the morning.
-Mrs. Chapman π
Mrs. Chapman do we only do the exit ticket for our homework in math.????:(
You also have a word problem. It is the problem from yesterday. π
Hi Mrs. Chapman I got my things from my mailbox earlier today but when I came home I didn’t have my homework in my folder. Could you put the exit ticket in my One Note? Thanks. -Jasmine
Hi Jasmine!
I’m not able to put the exit ticket in your OneNote this evening. You may come in before school and complete it then. See you tomorrow.
-Mrs. Chapman π
Hi Mrs. Chapman. Somehow I forget to bring my EMOTION project back home, if I arrive in the morning early can I do it? Sorry, I didn’t want to be late for tennis class starting at 3:30. Thanks! Maybe I shouldn’t be so careless next time…
Yes, you may work on it in the morning. You can work on the writing part from home and then complete the art portion in the morning.
π
Hey Mrs. Chapman! I was wondering if you can fit a schedule tomorrow for a review of the word problem you gave us today. Not to mention that I didn’t understand my homework. Respond ASAP please, thanks!
*Hi
Of course! How about right after VAPA tomorrow. The class will be finishing up our area & perimeter project, so we will have some time. See you tomorrow!
-Mrs. Chapman π
Mrs. Chapman I forgot my homework can you give me some advice that can help me actually do it
Hi Gabriel! You may stop by the classroom in the morning to pick it up. You can work on it before school on the picnic tables. π
Hi Mrs. Chapman. I was wondering if you can send me a copy of the 5th grade math homework online because I left it at school. I can copy down the answers and bring it in tomorrow.
Hi Jasmine!
The file is quite large and I won’t be able to attach it via e-mail. I can screenclip the page and put it in your OneNote. Will that work?
-Mrs. Chapman π
Okay! What section will you put it in?
In your notebook, I made a new section in the Math section called Math Homework. Send me a message if you can’t find it! π
Mrs. Chapman may we work on the rock cycle narrative for homework menu writing?
Yes! π
Hi Mrs. Chapman! I forgot to bring my Word problem home. I will work on HW menu math and I’ll come into the classroom tomorrow to do the word problem if that’s okay.
-Jasmine
Sounds good! π
Mrs.Chapman I have forgotten my homework at school and I was wondering if I can do my math homework at recess tomorrow or in the morning.
Sure! Stop by the classroom in the morning. If I’m not in the room, I’ll be in the hallway. π
Mrs. Chapman, on the exit ticket on number one what does it mean by “describe how many degrees his body will turn to be upright”?
How many degrees will he need to turn so that he will be standing up?
May I do achieve instead of Homework menu Writing?
You can do an Achieve writing activity instead. π
May I do achieve instead of Homework menu reading?
Sure! π
Mrs. Chapman on the back of tonight’s math problem, there is not a word problem and lesson 11’s exit ticket. Would I work on that?
Or just do the front?
No word problem tonight. Just exit tickets for both lessons. Please do both sides.
Mrs. Chapman I am so close to finishing my scenes for my gold rush narrative. May I complete it for my homework menus reading?
Yes, Stephen. I can’t wait to read it!
π
Mrs.Chapman I think that you put the wrong page number on Chapter 17 in By the Great Horn Spoon. Can you tell me the correct page number? Thank you -Joshua
Hi Joshua!
It could very well be the incorrect page number because we had two different versions of the book in class. However, it should be close to that page number. Unfortunately, I don’t have the book at home with me. My suggestion would be to quickly scan the pages of Chapter 17 and see if you can find the quote. That should help you answer the question. Let me know if you have any other questions.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Chapman π
I’m so exited for the field trip.
Mrs. Chapman, what is figurative language again?
Hi Stephen!
Similes, metaphors, hyperbole are all examples of figurative language.
Hi Mrs. Chapman! I seem to be having technical difficulties. I tried to go to one note on my iPad and it didn’t have my newer progress. I tried sinking it but it did no use. Then I switched to my laptop but it won’t let me log in. What should I do? Thanks!
-Carolyn
Hi Carolyn!
I’m so sorry that you are having technical difficulties. Sometimes it does take a while to sync. I will e-mail you a screenshot of your reasoning and you can finish it on a piece of paper and then type it tomorrow. How does that sound?
-Mrs. Chapman π
Sounds great. Thanks!π
Remember when you log in from outside of school, you have to put in your entire e-mail address (your number@live.cvesd.org). π
Mrs. Chapman I have written a post and already sent it for review. So all I need is for you to check it.
Hey Mrs. Chapman, I can not print out my I was raised by poem so I will do that at school
OK
π
Mrs. Chapman, what are adverbs again?
Hi Stephen!
Here’s a website that might help you: http://www.chompchomp.com/terms/adverb.htm
-Mrs. Chapman π
Mrs. Chapman I forgot to check my mailbox so I don’t have the exit ticket. May I do it tomorrow morning?
Yes. You may complete it in the morning before school or at recess.
Mrs. Chapman I do not have the homework exit ticket. So can I do it in the morning
I think I might have accidentally put it in number 31s mailbox.
No problem, Stephen. I won’t be in the classroom in the morning because of VAPA, so I’ll leave it on the door for you. π
Also do we have to do the chart on the back of the speech contest packet?
You don’t have to use that graphic organizer. It’s just available as an option if you’d like to use it. You create the graphic organizer that makes sense to you. π
What subject do we do for HW Menu tonight???
Please read the homework page of the blog for tonight’s homework.
Mrs. Chapman, in the morning can you help me with the front page of the math homework?
Of course! Drop by the classroom when you get to school. π
Mrs. Chapman my paragraph is kind of like a story and really long. Will it still count?
Which paragraph are you talking about, Stephen?
I am talking about writing a paragraph with all our vocabulary words
That’s sounds great, Stephen! π
Mrs. Chapman for grammar some games do not work and some I have done, what else can I do?
Hi Stephen!
There are some activities on the back side that do not involve online games. You can also do a MobyMax grammar activity. Please choose one of those to do. Also, please let me know which games no longer work, so that I can remove them from the homework menu.
-Mrs. Chapman π
Mrs chapman I mean they don’t work on my iPad, Also I am done with the backsid activities
Backside activities for non technology things
It’s OK to repeat activities. For example, if you were looking for figurative language in your reading, you can find different types of figurative language that maybe you hadn’t found before. π
Mrs. Chapman do we have to return the spinner for the fraction games?
Yes…please return it tomorrow. π
Mrs. Chapman in my folder and in my mailbox my math homework was not there I think the mail careyer did not put it in May I going in the morning and finish it.
Yes, of course! Remember to check and make sure you have all of the things you need before you leave for the day. π
Mrs. Chapman is paragraph 4 the conclusion or is it on another page?
Paragraph 4 is not the conclusion. It is on another page. π
hello mrs.chapman! I just got back from GATE and I forgot my homework. Is there any chance that I could pick it up tomorrow and work on it?
Sure, Jasmine! Just stop by the classroom in the morning. π
Mrs. Chapman what is figurative language again?
It’s for grammar. Also what does it mean by kind of figurative launguage.
Hi Stephen!
Remember when we discussed the difference between the literal meaning of words and the figurative meaning of words? Our example in class was “My stomach growled!” My stomach wasn’t literally growling. Those words have a different meaning. That’s figurative language.
Mrs. Chapman may we finish our narrative writing if we are not done instead of homework menu reading?
Yes, please do! π
Mrs. Chapman I just wanted to let you know that I will work on typing pal and I also twisted my toe if you see me walking strangely.
I’m so sorry to hear about your toe, Stephen! Thank you for letting me know about Typing Pal. Don’t forget that you can take our day off to catch up on your narrative story or your Island of the Blue Dolphins learning log. π
Mrs. Chapman may I use 10 words?
Yes!
Mrs. Chapman what does it mean by your text?
I meant for Homework menu grammar.
“Your text” means whatever text you are reading for your nightly reading. Have fun!
π
Mrs. Chapman I will have to finish my unique of the week next week because I can not go to my blog from home?
No problem, Stephen! π
Hi Mrs. Chapman! For our word study tonight do we have to use all of the words? If not, then how many?
Hi Jasmine!
You decide how many words will challenge you. π
Mrs. Chapman I will not be able to use and the photos because office doesn’t work on my iPad and I cannot go to my blog on my computer.
No problem, Stephen. You can work on it at school on Wednesday. π
One good series that i recommend are Percy Jackson books.
the one that I’m talking about is the sea of monsters the second book. The story is a about boy named Percy who is the son of the god of the sea. Also he goes on an adventure to find the golden fleas. Thats basically the hole story in three sentences.
– Jaren Kei Cachola
Mrs. Chapman how many words do we have to use?
There is no magic number, Stephen. Use enough that you feel challenged in your activity. π
I think I will use seven words.
Mrs.nChapman I know this is the wrong section, but can I do my Unique of the week on my blog?
Hi Stephen!
I think that would be fine! Let’s talk about how you might organize that tomorrow at school. π
Thanks Mrs. Chapman:)
Mrs. Chapman what is the associative property again?
Hi Stephen!
Today, you learned that you could group factors together in different ways. For example,
54 = (2 X 3) X 9 could also be written 54 = 2 X (3 X 9). Grouping the factors in different ways is using the Associative Property. First the 3 “associates” with the 2, then the 3 “associates” the 9. Remember, you can click on the lesson on the Homework page of the blog to review. If you are still having trouble, we can work on it in the morning.
-Mrs. Chapman π
Hey Mrs. Chapman in the lesson 20 homework page, what does it mean by “written method.”?
They want you to use the standard algorithm. π
I recommend the book called The Lost Hero. It is part of the series called heroes of Olympus. The book, as well as many other amazing series is by Rick Riordan. First of all I think it is great because it has Greek mythology. It’s amazing how the author puts myths into how the characters fight foes. It can also make you laugh at certain parts. For example, a character might make a funny reference on a monsters powers to our every day life. Another thing particularly in this book is mystery. The main character in this book hasn’t been in any other books that the author made. So when a different character sees him and tells him that he’s done something you can’t remember any better than he can. You’ve heard my recommendation and now I recommend one more thing. Read the book!
Hi mrs chapman! Um, what are the four words that we chose to write down for sign because I forgot to write them down. Thanks!
No problem. Why don’t you find some with that root word in the dictionary? π
Hi Mrs.Chapman! I was wondering if I could use some of the root words, as well as the words with the root in it, for word study tonight. Thanks!
-Carolyn
Yes!
Mrs. Chapman do we have to choose every single example word from whatever word we selected?
Choose at least 7 of the 12 words. π
Also the email?
Hi Stephen!
I just sent you an e-mail with the information! π
Hey Mrs. Chapman, what is the password for prezi?
Hey Mrs.Chapman! I’m so sorry, but I forgot the math paper at school, and the link is a bit confusing! Is there any time I can pick it up? Thanks!
-Carolyn
Hi Carolyn!
Your conference is at 8:15am tomorrow morning. You can pick it up then and work on it before school begins. See you tomorrow.
-Mrs. Chapman π
Hi Mrs. Chapman I forgot to get my math homework at school (again) so can I pick it up in the morning like before?
Of course! I’ll be there in the morning. π
Hi Mrs.Chapman so for our ecosystems project do we pick an ecosystem we want to learn about then start doing research?
Hi Jasmine!
Yes! Think about the ecosystems we went over in class. Choose one that interests you and that you would like to learn more about. Find some books or articles about that ecosystem and use your note cards to take notes on the research you find. Have fun!
Mrs. Chapman
Hi Mrs.Chapman I forgot my homework at school but I want to know what time you are going to be in our classroom in the morning because I want to do it before school starts.
Hi Jasmine!
Our classroom will be open at 8:15am. You can stop by then to get your work. π
Hey Mrs. Chapman if we finish a book and it wasn’t 20 minutes yet, would it still count as 20 minute reading.
Good question, Stephen! 20 minutes means 20 minutes. If you finish a book, start another one. π
HI Mrs.Chapman I need a answer to this please so I have a chrome book(computer)that I got for my birth day last year and when I go to office 365 it won,t let me log in what do I do?
Hi Amanda!
I’m really sorry that you are having trouble logging on to Office 365. I just tried logging in from home using Google Chrome and it wouldn’t let me in either. Hmmmm…I’m not sure what the problem is, but we can check with Mrs. Mazeau in the morning. She knows a lot about this kind of thing and she may be able to help us.
-Mrs. Chapman π
So we write about all the websites we work on.
I’d like to know about the websites you’re visiting to work on grammar. I’d rather have one detailed paragraph about one website than a list of all of the websites you visited. Think about what you think would be best and then start writing. π
Mrs. Chapman do we write again about what we did on another site on grammar.
-Stephen
Yes…please write about any grammar activity that you complete. Thanks for checking!
π
Hello Mrs.Chapman I may have forgotten which column of the homework menu we have to do tonight because I forgot to write it down in my planner.
Hi Jasmine!
You need to complete one activity from HW Menu: Math. Have fun! π
Het Mrs. Chapman I forgot to bring the math homework home, but will you be in the classroom before school becase I want to do it before school starts.
-Stephen
Hi Stephen!
Remember, I won’t be at school in the morning because I have a meeting. You may ask our substitute in the morning if you can come in and complete it. Otherwise, you can finish it at recess. π
Hey Mrs. Chapman I forgot to bring the math homework home, but I will do it in the morning before school starts.
-Stephen
What are the text features again.
-Stephen
Hi Stephen!
Text features are parts of nonfiction text like headings, photographs, captions, maps, etc. They help us understand the text more. π
sorry Mrs.Chapman. I put the recommend in the wrong section.
No problem, Jalen!
I recommend the book The Strange Case of Origami Yoda. It is a very funny book full of doodles to illustrate the humor. It is about these kids in what is probably the weirdest middle school in the world. They take advice from a origami puppet who has arguments with his creator, the weirdest person in the school. In the end you are going to want to be a character, so there are instructions to make the main origami puppet at the end. That puppet will make you feel like a character in the book I hope you now like.
Hey Mrs. Chapman what are the word study words again.I forgot them.
-Stephen
Hi Stephen!
No word study words yet. Just choose 10 interesting or challenging words from your nightly reading. π
Good evening teacher
I dont’ understand his homework , he need to choose writing and word study vocabulary every day Thank you for help me
Hi! Tonight’s homework menu choice is from the math column. Please have Arturo choose ONE activity from the math column. Each night he will choose one activity from a different column. Please let me know if you have any other questions.
-Mrs. Chapman π
